The McDonald’s Egg McMuffin: The world’s most famous breakfast sandwich?

As far back as I can remember, breakfast was my favorite meal of the day. Like many spoiled brats, I demanded, and was fed, buckwheat pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles or cinnamon toast virtually every morning and no fewer than three evenings a week. Regretfully, the practicalities of adulthood have rendered our morning meal periods abbreviated, if not non-existent. On the best days, I can spare a few minutes after I arrive at my office, near McPherson Square, to run out for coffee and a blueberry scone.

I like scones, but I like buckwheat pancakes better. So for the month of September, I’m going on a campaign to reclaim breakfast. The time limitations of my schedule being beyond my control, unfortunately, the crab cake Florentine from Ardour at the St. Regis is not a realistic option. For those of us forced to shoe-horn nourishment into routines fettered by other priorities, a breakfast must be quick, convenient and, whenever possible, portable. You see where this is going.

Every morning in the month of September, I will eat a different breakfast sandwich, write about it here and, at the end of the month, declare a favorite. I shall call it The September Sunrise Sandwich Spree. And I need your help. Use the comments section below to nominate your favorites, and I’ll add them to my schedule. Although my geographic range is typically limited to the inner Northwest Quadrant, I will venture outside the District, when possible, for sandwiches that are particularly intriguing.

Be creative: I might love sandwiches more than most, but even I don’t want to eat an egg and cheese bagel every day for a month.

Might be too late for a nomination, and I’m not sure if they still have it, but Cap Lounge used to have a killer item on its brunch menu called the “Hangover Sandwich.” Something like egg, cheese, bacon, some sort of aioli and jalapeno peppers in between two slices of bread.

Definitely not too late, and I appreciate the nomination. I need to expand outside NW, but it’s hard on work mornings. I’m planning a Cap Hill weekend coming up.

Some more options – the insanely huge sandwiches at Carvy (on 19th between K and L), breakfast sandwiches as Dupont Market, and the ciabatta or baguette breakfast sandwiches at Bread Line (Penn Ave between 18th & 17th),

Thanks for the additional tips! I need to plot out the rest of the month; trying to plan my next move every morning when I wake up has been taxing.
